Yesterday, Ireland formally completed its accession as an Associate Member State of CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) which presents an exciting and transformative opportunity not just for Ireland but for CERN too. I believe that this is not only a pivotal moment for the Irish scientific community but also for Ireland's role on the global stage. Having had the privilege of staying at the CERN Campus in 2022, I was able to witness firsthand the remarkable work carried out at this world-leading institution. It convinced me that Ireland’s membership in CERN will be mutually beneficial, catalysing both scientific innovation and promoting our longstanding commitment to peacebuilding.
